Welcome to Oakenshield Burmese, Burmese cat breeders in Sussex, and to exhibitors Carolyn and Robin Kempe. We live in sunny East Sussex, near to the south coast.
All our cats live indoors and our kittens are born and raised indoors as part of the family. Our kittens are well socialised and are happy to go to their new homes and live with a well trained dog or children.
Carolyn was born and brought up with cats (and dogs, horses and just about any kind of pet - except spiders!) She has owned Burmese since the late 1970s and had her first litter in 1983. Her first champion was a lovely brown boy Ch Oakenshield Pinball Wizard in 1986 and she has since bred nearly 50 Champions, Grand Champions, Premiers and Grand Premiers.
The proudest moment was in 2001 when the handsome red boy UK Gr Ch Oakenshield Buster Bertie won Supreme Overall Exhibit at the Supreme Show. Bertie's litter sister Ch Imp Gr Pr Oakenshield Toffee Apple, also won top awards at shows until her 15th year and throughly enjoyed her day out at a cat show. Sadly, both Bertie and Toffee Apple died of old age.
Carolyn is Secretary of the Burmese Cat Club and its Benevolent Fund. She is also a GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) delegate for the club. Robin also sits on the Burmese Cat Club Committee and is an enthusiastic and popular helper at cat shows. Our Burmese are first and foremost important family members and having lovely kittens occasionally is the icing on the cake!
